Gregor J Wasted opportunityWhile the setting would leave a lot of space to tell stories about social conflict and other interesting aspects, the filmmakers decided to resort to a standard action plot. Granted, set pieces and effects are well done, but for me the result remains uninteresting, especially regarding the potential of the premise. I think it's probably part of a Chinese cultural comedic style that I don't get -- a sort of slapstick over-the-top exaggeration -- much like there is a certain Japanese style of drama found in anime that doesn't totally resonate with me... but I watch with enjoyment nonetheless.The CGI is great and the action is high energy. It's an enjoyable way to spend a couple hours if you are a sci-fi fan. Saving the earth from an external threat like the sun is actually contradictory to what it really is, life on earth depends on the sun and the threat comes from greed on this planet. To be united against greed would be more desirable nowadays. But morality aside, this movie is worth the watch.
